Phi (ϕ) in Facial Aesthetics

SYMMETRY & PROPORTION

Phi guides the ideal balance and symmetry in the human face. For instance, the distance between various facial features (e.g., eyes, nose, and mouth) often aligns with this ratio in aesthetically pleasing faces. Symmetry is a powerful marker of beauty, as it is subconsciously associated with health and genetic fitness.

GOLDEN RATIO MASK

This is a template developed based on phi that can overlay a face to assess its harmony. Features that closely align with the mask are often considered more attractive.

KEY FACIAL METRICS USING PHI:

Eye Placement: The distance between the eyes (inter-pupil distance) and the width of the eyes ideally follow the golden ratio.

Nose Measurements: The length of the nose in relation to the distance between the eyes and the width of the face.

Mouth Placement: The distance from the nose to the mouth and the mouth’s width often align with phi when seen as harmonious.
